Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is an important day for almost every town on the island, which commemorates the arrival of Jesus in Jerusalem. Across the day the blessing of palms will be celebrated throughout all of the different towns on the island, where many families position palm leaves at the entrance of their home to ask for health. The most crowded event takes place in the Palacio Episcopal of Palma de Mallorca, where at 10am the Bishop blesses the palms of the worshipers and afterwards a mass is carried out in the cathedral.
The procession of Sant Crist de la Sang, in Palma
On the Thursday the most important parade of Palma is carried out: the procession of the Sant Crist de la Sang. Get in to the capital with one of our taxis in Mallorca and enjoy the solemnness of a march in Palma in which all of the brotherhoods participate. This afternoon procession begins in the La Sang church, next to the Misericordia, and runs along the streets of Palma until arriving at the cathedral.
”Davallament” on Good Friday in Pollensa
The “davallament” (Descent from the cross) the Friday Saint of Pollensa is one of the most eye catching religious events of the Mallorcan Easter celebrations. The event begins at the top of Calvari with the descent of a cross with the figure of Jesus Christ whilst verses from the poem “Davallament” from Miquel Costa i Llobera is recited. Later on, the procession descends accompanied by Christ in a spectacular illuminated display as the only light seen is the flame of all of the candles. A journey filled with symbolism and in which the brotherhood of dels Prohoms descend down the 365 steps of Calvari towards the church of Mare de Déu dels Ángels.
The procession of the meeting in Alcúdia
Resurrection Sunday stands out due to the processions of the Meeting. Get one of our comfortable taxis and head to Alcúdia, where in the morning the procession of the finding is held. Two processions accompany the images of Jesus Christ resurrected and of the Virgin Mary. These will be found in front of the town hall and will express their joy with three little jumps. Due to this, the event is well known as the “Processó dels tres botets” (the procession of the three hops).
