Radio Taxi Pollensa takes you to the port’s new promenade
Pollensa is a busy and ever-changing area, with beautiful natural scenery, which is fully aware of its value as a tourism destination. Nothing can resist change and this is why the seafront along by the port of Pollensa has currently undergone the largest refurbishment the area has seen in years. The project, whose main beneficiaries are cyclists and pedestrians, has been managed by the local town council. After two years’ worth of building work and various phases of construction, the refurbishment which affects the promenade along the coast from the port is finally complete. We take you to see the new promenade in our taxis in Pollensa.
More space for walking along and enjoying the bay of Pollensa
The new promenade has two different sections. The first one includes the Saralegui Paseo and part of Avenida Londres. It joins the roundabout at Enginyer Roca Square, in front of the yacht club, with the Avenida Paris, the street just after the point where the La Gola wetland meets the sea. This section now features a cycling lane and a pavement for pedestrians. Traffic circulation will be limited to the hours of 7am to 6pm. Meaning that the Port of Pollensa seafront gains 600 metres worth of pedestrian-only area in the early evening, and people will be able to enjoy having unrestricted access to the beach, bar and restaurant terraces and local shops and services. The pavements along this section were extended during the first phase of rennovation work and it also features a cycling lane.
Cyclists also benefit
The second section of the new promenade is over a kilometre and a half long and extends from Avenida Paris to the Llenaire roundabout. Its pavements have also been extended, meaning there is more space for pedestrians, but this section maintains a lane for permanent traffic. The walkway now has wider pavements and its cycling lane has been separated from the road via the use of large planters. This rennovation has also affected the wall which extends along the promenade – it has been recovered and protected, and any damage caused by erosion has also been repaired. Beach access and beach kiosks have also been renewed and taken care of.
