Get to the best fairs of Mallorca 2017 by taxi straight from Pollensa
Autumn has arrived and during this time also arrive the “fires” of Mallorca, the hallmark sign of the island. The fairs are a great opportunity to get to know the charming towns of Mallorca, but mainly to discover the authentic products of each area.
Although many believe that the island only has sun and beaches, Mallorca is much more than that. As the sun goes down and the days become a little grey and shorter, arrives the season of the fairs. Each area has its own “fira” where a great display of things are on offer such as fresh produce, products, materials and you can even see cultural acts which are unique to each town.
In continuation, we want to recommend some of the fairs which are celebrated very soon so that you can plan a cultural and gastronomic weekend.
Fira de Pollensa
The Fira de Pollensa is one of the oldest and most attended fairs on the island. This year it is celebrated the second weekend of November and its first ever recorded date was in 1785.
The fair stands out for its Mallorcan tradition with traditional dances, xeremies music which is a type of bag pipe and daemon parades.
On the same weekend there is the Fira d’Artesania which will be held in the Claustre de Santo Domingo, this year it will celebrate its 34th edition.
The artisans put on display original pieces and mix them with some items from today. The photographic exhibitions or the workshops are also the main characters of this fair.
If you decide to get to this precious town you have small charming hotels which give a warm welcome, such as the Hotel Son Sant Jordi, a rural hotel that is located in the urban centre of the town and is made up of a collection of houses from the 17th Century. It would be the best option for your holidays.
Fira de la Tardor in Muro
The Fira de la Tardor i la Carabassa coincides with the Fira de Pollensa, the second weekend of November, Muro welcomes its traditional fair with an extensive programme of activities that are ideal for all of the family. The protagonist is the vegetable of the season: the pumpkin.
You will find a great number of stalls and stands with local artisanal products, gastronomy and much more. It also has a tapas route and a wine tasting and, even, a sampling of cooking with where you can try typical dishes made right in front of you with the key ingredient, pumpkin.
There is expected to be more than 5.000 people attending during the whole weekend. If you opt to attend this fair you can live the origins of this small town.
Dijous Bo in Inca
The capital of Raiguer, Inca, located in the centre north of the island, celebrates in autumn its main fair of the year. The month of November celebrates possibly the most well-known fair of them all: Dijous Bo.
Before this day arrives, which this year is the third Thursday of November, the previous weekends celebrate different themed fairs: la Fira de la Terra (the fair of the land), la Fira de l’Oci (the leisure fair) and la Fira d’Art (the art fair).
At the first Fira d’Inca the main stars are the products and the exhibitions related to the lands with flowers, flower nurseries, agri-food products and organic products. This day, also, has free activities for kids and adults such as workshops, concerts etc.
On the second fair the protagonists are motors and sports, pay attention if you love this kind of thing because you can’t miss out on this date.
And, lastly, the third fair is where artisans, merchants and retailers display their best works.
Fira de la Mel en Llubí
We arrive to the area of Es Pla de Mallorca, Llubí, which every year celebrates the Fira de la Mel (the honey fair) with a great exposition about the world of bees. The beekeepers of the Balearics arrive at this marvellous town to present their products and the visitors will certainly not miss out as they have the opportunity to taste various types of honey and get to know its history.
Also it has stands dedicated to the sale of honey related products, such as exhibitions based around the bees, information about the health benefits of consuming honey and even shows species of bees that are indigenous and foreign to the island.
There are only high quality products, at this fair you will only find the best honeys.
As well as food stands, you will discover clothes stands, artisanal products, exhibitions of vehicles and agricultural machinery.
The fair is held each third Sunday of November and on this day you can smell a sweet aroma from the moment you enter the town until the moment you leave.
